Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

  • When Can I book you?

I take bookings up to 2 years in advance of a wedding date & get booked up very quickly. It is advisable to schedule your wedding with me as far in advance as possible. If your wedding date is very soon, please do still contact me as I may have availability, particularly for weekdays, Sundays & winter weddings.

Please note ~ A minimum of three (to include the bride) make ups must be booked.

  • How much is the deposit?

To secure your date, a booking fee of £50 is required which is non-refundable if the date is cancelled. Booking fee's must be received within 24 hours of your booking otherwise your date will need to be released. The remaining balance is due to be paid on your trial date or 6 weeks prior to your wedding day, whichever is first. I request money via bank transfer or PayPal, please ask me for the details.

When booking make-up for bridesmaids, mothers of the bride etc., the booking form is taken as confirmation of the booking & my diary will be booked out accordingly. If for any reason bridesmaids etc. decide not to have make-up, a cancellation fee is payable at the time of cancellation. Apologies for this but on a few occasions’ bridesmaids etc. have cancelled make up close to the wedding. It is too late to re book my diary for other weddings as most brides book me 6-12 months in advance. The cancellation fee is to cover loss of earnings.

Please note that trials are only done Monday - Friday 10am - 3pm. If you require a trial at the weekend or evening a additional charge will occur.

  • Why does bridal makeup cost more?

One reason is timing – Bridal services always take longer to complete than anyone else in the wedding party and so they should because it’s the bride’s big day. The bride is the main attraction and they expect to treated as such.  I’ve met many brides and I can with certainty say that each bride always wants their wedding party to look fantastic and feel great about themselves but in the end, what it comes down to is it’s really all about the bride standing out  and therefore more time is often allotted to the bride to ensure her expectations are met. Time is money, that’s why the bride is often charged more than others.

There is also a lot of background work that's not seen like emails, messages and phone calls, washing of equipment before and after each wedding, invoicing, advertising, my training and expertise, insurance and time preparing for the wedding.

Now don’t think that your bridesmaids, mother of the bride or any others aren’t going to look good because they are paying less, every client deserves the best possible service available, so you should expect your bridesmaids, friends and family to receive an excellent service on the day and to look beautiful.

  • How much do you charge for mileage?

    I charge 50p per mile’s both ways.

  • Who needs to have a make-up trial?

Make-up trials are optional for bridesmaids and mums but as a bride it's really important to have a wedding make-up trial before the big day. Trials are an opportunity for us to have a chat about the colour scheme and feel/theme of your wedding, the kind of make-up you feel comfortable wearing and what you've got in mind for your wedding day make-up. It's also a chance for you just to sit back and enjoy the experience of being pampered, knowing that your make-up will be exactly what you want it to be.

  • Where do the trials take place?

I usually carry out the trials at my home in Hednesford, where I have a nice bright room and access to my full range of makeup and tools. However, I can travel to a location of your choice if necessary but travel costs may apply. I will Come to your chosen wedding venue on your wedding day.

  • How long does a trial take?

Makeup trials usually take up to 2 hours and hair 2 to 3 hours. We will always endeavour to stay with you until you are satisfied with your look.

  • What brands do you use?

My kit contains mainly MAC, Illamasqua and Makeup Forever, I have a lot of other premium brands too including Estee Lauder, Giorgio Armani, Chanel, Bobbi Brown, NARS, Smashbox and some professional brands including Mehron, Krylon, Viseart and Face atelier. Although I am a Mac Pro member and hold professional accounts with many other brands, I'm not affiliated with any company; all of the cosmetics I use are ones that I have researched, tried and tested and I know are going to last all day, look amazing and photograph beautifully.

  • Will the makeup be ok if I cry?

It is quite normal to get emotional on the big day. As well as the above, I also use a good waterproof mascara to avoid any smudging.

  • Do you do Airbrush makeup?

Yes I can do either Airbrush foundation or normal liquid foundation, I offer both to all brides, so if you fancy giving it a go at your trial just let me know.

  • What is Airbrush Makeup? Is it better?

Airbrush makeup is makeup sprayed onto the skin using an airbrush instead of being applied with sponges, brushes, fingers, or other methods. In recent years it has also been gaining popularity among brides who wants the look of a flawless face without the feeling of wearing heavy foundation or makeup. Airbrush makeup has a long lasting finish, is water resistant and can last from 12-24 hours making it an ideal choice for brides on their wedding day.

For some it may be the perfect choice on their wedding day because they may have a lot of acne scarring or think they may cry a lot while for others they may not feel it necessary. No matter what the choice – Airbrush or Traditional foundation application I promise you a base that will be even, glowing and look great for the entire day.

  • How long does the bridal make up take?

Bridal makeup takes approximately 1 hour and other wedding party guests’ (e.g. bridesmaids, mother-of-the-bride) makeup take approximately 40 to 45 minutes each.

Brides tend to want to be ready with makeup about an hour before leaving for the ceremony in order to leave enough time to get dressed, have a glass of champagne and perhaps some portraits or any other last minute things.

Time disappears quickly on the morning of the wedding, therefore, I highly recommend scheduling plenty of time for makeup before having to leave for the ceremony and evening!

  • Do you supply a top up of my lip colour and powder?

You can either buy a full sized lip colour (of your choice) from me or I can supply you with a top up kit with enough lip colour and powder for you to re-apply throughout the day.

  • Would I have my hair done before my makeup?

In an ideal world yes, it is best if your makeup done after your hair as heated appliances/sprays can interfere with the finished look.

  • I have sensitive skin and I am worried about what products might work?

There are certain products that work better for sensitive skin, although it can be a case of trial and error, as what works for some might not for others. This is what you can establish at the trial. If you have found a particular product that works well for your skin condition I am happy to use it.

  • I don't wear a lot of makeup, but i still want to look beautiful on my wedding day. Should i hire a professional makeup artist?

Absolutely!  You don't have to wear a lot of makeup on your wedding day to look beautiful, it just needs to be applied correctly and with the appropriate products.  If you don't want to look too "made up" for your wedding, I can give you a very soft, natural bridal look.   It is most important on this day that your makeup lasts, looks great in photographs, makes you feel beautiful and is applied flawlessly to make you feel and look your best on this very special day.

  • I’m thinking of having a spray/fake tan. Is this OK?

Yes it is not a problem to have a spray or fake tan.  I would advise that you have this applied ahead of your make-up trial so you will be able to see it with the makeup as it would look on your wedding day.  If you decide not to have a tan for your trial, but to have one on the wedding day, this isn’t a problem as I will colour match the foundation on the day.

  • I am not sure what makeup look I want on my wedding day, can you help?

Yes, of course. I will ask you what makeup you usually wear so I am aware of how much or how little makeup you are used to and what colours you prefer. I like Pinterest where they have good bridal makeup looks that we can also go through together. It is really important to me to get it right for you and for you to feel totally happy with the final look.

  • Do you offer Tattoo Cover up and is this charged separately?

Yes! Please ask for a quote as this is dependent on the size of the tattoo

  • How do you keep your products sanitary?

It is very important to make sure that the person you hire for your hair and makeup is sanitary.  A good makeup artist will sanitize their hands right in front of you, have clean brushes, and a tidy makeup kit.  I always begin applying makeup using cleaned and disinfected brushes and products. I have been professionally trained to know how to keep everything clean and sanitary.  My brushes are cleaned before each work day, and cleaned with antibacterial brush cleaner between clients.  I do not share lipsticks and other products between clients, they are always taken out with spatulas and then mixed on a sanitized cosmetic palette.  All eyeshadows and eye/lip liners are disinfected with cosmetic sanitizer between usages as well.

  • Do you do Bridal Hair as well?

No, for such an important event I prefer to put all my focus into my makeup artistry. I believe that your wedding day will run smoothest when makeup and hair are performed by two separate artists.

  • Can you recommend someone for Bridal Hair?

Yes, I have several stylists I have worked with personally and would be happy to recommend one that fits your needs.

  • How far do you travel?

I’m based in Staffordshire and West Midlands and more than happy to travel. I also like to travel internationally as well as all over the United Kingdom. In some cases travel charges are added and they will be listed on your quote at the time of booking. Any journey exceeding two hours will incur an overnight cost.
